Dear formerly quite organized, first: your brain has not used up its thoughts. It may be trying to operate with several browser tabs open, one playing music, and no obvious way to find it.
Changes in memory, attention, sleep, mood, and hot flashes can overlap during the menopausal transition. Poor sleep can also make focus and recall harder. But two missed meetings cannot tell us the cause, and brain fog is a description, not an explanation. Stress, medicines, mood, thyroid conditions, iron levels, and other health factors can matter too.
A useful next move is smaller than tracking your entire existence. For two or three weeks, note when the fog is most disruptive, how you slept, any cycle or hot-flash changes, medication changes, and what it interrupted. Bring that pattern, plus the question ‘What else should we rule out?’, to a healthcare professional.
Your thoughts are not gone. One of them may just be in the pantry with your keys.
With you in the uncertainty,
leni
